Page transcript:
Sara: That’s fine, dear.
Kaz: sigh
Sara: Are you going to see Chrissy?
Kaz: What? No.
Sara: I hope not going to college didn’t get in the way of your friendship with Chrissy and Eric…
I’m sorry we needed the money for your father’s business.
Kaz: It’s fine.
Sara: Are you still working toward being a mechanic?
You were always so good with cars.
Kaz: No, Mom. I’m never going to be a mechanic.
Sara: Never say never, sweetheart.
Kaz: Hey, um.
I forgot Mat asked me to go get coffee this morning…
Hey dude.
Mat: Oh! Hey Kaz.
Kaz: You want to grab coffee with your bro?

Gays can be mechanics! I should know, I happen to be one!
We love a gay mechanic! Don’t worry, that’s not his reason for not achieving his dream.
Oh my god… they took his money for college. God, that’s so fucked. My partner’s abusive dad took their move-out fund that they’d saved to leave with the excuse they needed it for the mortgage, and it was low-key a form of sabotage. I wonder if that’s happening here a bit too.
Man, that’s messed up. I’m really sorry that happened to your partner, and I hope they’re well away from their dad now.
In this case, it was Kaz’s parents’ money that they had saved to send him to college, but they opted to prioritize his father’s business. His older brother, Joe, got to go to college though. Joe is a few years older than Kaz, but nevertheless, they would’ve been going to college at the same time for a while. Some favoritism is at play here too.
