Chapter 10 – Page 305
Yeah, that’s it. Kaz is just going to leave.
To be clear, Kaz didn’t necessarily intend to come out to his parents on this trip. He said to Alex in chapter 9 that he wanted to see if their views had changed. This was a temperature check. The indications weren’t good – both mom and dad asking about girlfriends, his mother’s alcoholism, and his father’s apathy toward the family, not even to mention Joe’s issues. Sometimes it’s safer to not come out and just cut your losses with family. Kaz didn’t really get the opportunity to do that on his terms. It sucks that he didn’t get to say anything to his little brother before he left, but Kaz is only 22 and an anxious dude so he did what he felt like he had to.
I’m sorry this has been a depressing chapter. Growing pains and unsupportive family are hard to read about but I thank you all for following along. We have a few more rough pages, then it will end on a happier note. Thankfully Kaz has people who love him fully for who he is back in Starlight City.
Next post: (Jun 8) Kaz drives away.

Page transcript:
Joe: Hey!
You’re lucky Dad is still on a call! He’s going to lose his shit when I tell him!
So that’s it?
You’re just going to fuckin’ leave?

Thank God hes leaving. I cant stand that family at all. As someone who grew up Christian and was scared as hell to come out to my family (luckily they all knew and accepted me) its sad really. And like I always say F joe. Sir you’re that upset about two men kissing?? Sit down and get off dad’s nipple. Drive Kaz and dont look back
He got the answers he needed, which is that their views really haven’t changed :/ I’m glad that your family was supportive when you came out. I had a lot of anxiety about coming out to mine. It initially didn’t go well, but they came around in the end. Not all families are supportive though, and sometimes it’s better to know where you stand so you can move on.
Exactly, im glad your family came around in the end. He got the answer’s he needed and now he can go back to his real home and go back to the people who care and love him
<3
THIS IS ACTUALLY SO GOOD THAT I FINISHED IT IN AN HOUR
Oh damn, impressive! Thank you for reading!
smh should have run his legs over
100% lol
BRO I BINGED THE WHOLE THING
Woohoo! Thank you for reading the whole thing!
I feel really bad for Matt 🙁 He clearly really needs his big brother, and I think it’d be worth trying to maintain that relationship at least….
Yeah, things are tough for Mat too, and we just saw the tip of the iceberg. Part of chapter 11 will be dedicated to patching up some of Kaz and Mat’s relationship. We’ll see more of Mat as the comic progresses too 🙂
Also, now that I’ve re-read this chapter i have a theory. Is joe closeted??? When it comes to family like this, theres always the one siblings who managed to “escape ” and live how they want to. Meanwhile he’s stuck living by dads rules and ideals. My theory is, he liked a boy but because of the religion he knew it was frowned upon. Maybe his “girlfriend ” is actually a cover up and seeing Kaz with someone living how he wants made him mad. Idk maybe im just rambling
Not a bad theory because this definitely happens, but nah, in this case, he’s just a homophobe :/ Kaz’s parents have enabled Joe a lot and he’s used to getting his way. It’s debatable though if Joe was actually disgusted enough to run off Kaz during their final confrontation, or if it was partially staged to break up their Christmas celebrations so he can go fuck off with his girlfriend instead of having to partake in family stuff. Deeply fucked up, but Joe doesn’t strike me as the kind of person to think about the long term effects of doing something like that.
