My sister is one of my biggest supporters as well, but funnily enough, she was the last one in my immediate family that I came out to. My parents took my coming out pretty badly at first and I didn’t want to risk losing her support too. My parents have since come around, but having a sibling in your corner can make a big difference.

Alex: Yeah.
Kaz: I always liked that name. It really suits you.
Alex: Thanks! My old name started with “Al” and I wanted to keep that. Jess has called me Al as a nickname since before I even came out.
Kaz: Like you said, I guess she really did know before you.
Alex: Yeah…
Eyy, same as me! I picked a name that starts with the first letter of my birth name, and the new one also shortens to Al lmao. I can’t wait to turn 35 and turn into a fat old Uncle Al type. Suits me just fine.

When I tried to come out to our mother, I started crying and couldn’t really say it so it went:
Me: Eh… I have to tell you that… erm…
Sis: He wants to tell you he identifies as a guy
Me: ???? and how do you know that
I didn’t go the route of picking a name similar to my deadname, though, but it’s cool since my younger sister who’s also trans chose a weird/unique name just like me. And, well, my older sis just happened to have an unique birth name, so all three names fit really nicely together.
A bit of a rant I guess 🙂
