Chapter 9 – Page 252
Nothing like an awkward conversation with mom!
In case it’s unclear, Kaz is not out to his family (he talks about this here in chapter 6.) And as we learn here, he hasn’t been back home since he moved to Starlight City. His family doesn’t know anything about his life or his relationship with Alex. He gently tries to get out of agreeing to go, but ultimately, his mother talks him into it. Kaz asks his mom for an update on his old best friend Eric too (we last heard about him back in chapter 2.) Why does Kaz apparently not talk to Eric anymore? Who’s Chrissy, and what does she have to do with Eric?
In other news – the archive has the chapters available to download as PDFs now! This was an excellent idea suggested by one of my patrons.
Next post: (Mar. 31) Kaz delivers the chai to Jordan, and goes to visit Alex to get his mind off of things.

Page transcript:
Kaz: I’m fine. Is everything okay?
Kaz’s Mom: I wanted to ask what you were doing for Christmas.
Kaz: Christmas, huh…? I’m not sure…
Kaz’s Mom: You should come home. It’s been so long. More than two years…
Kaz: I guess it has been a while. I don’t know. I can’t promise anything, but…
Kaz’s Mom: Oh, I know you have a busy life. But everyone back home misses you.
Kaz: I… okay. I’ll try to make it up for a few days.
Kaz’s Mom: Oh wonderful!
Kaz: Do you uh… ever see Eric around town?
Kaz’s Mom: No, but I do see Chrissy. I bet she’d love to see you.
Kaz: Yeah. Maybe.
She always liked Eric better.
Kaz’s Mom: I think you two would’ve made a better couple.
Kaz: Well, anyway, Mom, I’ll see you for Christmas. Yes, I promise. Okay. You too. Bye.
