The bases Rahul is talking about are the Nike missile bases. There were a bunch built throughout the U.S., mostly near urban centers to defend them in case of attack. All have been decommissioned and most have been repurposed into other things, but there are still a few existing abandoned sites that some have been lucky enough to explore.
